Staff Bio

Alex was introduced to circus and gymnastics at a young age. Through his training, he developed a strong understanding of both disciplines and began to harness the sense of play he had learned from circus to invent creative acrobatics and trampoline skills.

At the age of 14, Alex began coaching gymnastics and quickly discovered his passion for breaking down skills to create drills and training programs. His skill and ingenuity led him to become the head Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) coach and manager at Wesley Lions Gymnastics Centre.

After graduating from school, Alex joined the urban and street-inspired acrobatics troupe Team Loko, where he performed Banquine, Toss, Tumbling, and Parkour at festivals across Australia. A highlight of his time with the troupe was performing on a custom-built scaffolded stage on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Following his time with Team Loko, Alex initiated the development of a four-person circus troupe, 'Affinity Circus,' which focused on training and mastering unique Banquine, Toss, and group acrobatic tricks. They incorporated their individual specialty skills into a range of site-specific ensemble routines.

Today, Alex uses his expertise in creative skill development to work with NICA students, helping them individualise their training programs and discover unique and innovative skill sets through creative expression.
