Merlene Hutt

Hailing from Darwin, Merlene’s early childhood was spent training and competing in dancing and gymnastics. She was first introduced to circus at 16 after sustaining a knee injury during a national gymnastics’ competition, which is when she commences training with Corrugated Iron Youth Arts.

After graduating high school, Merlene secured a trainee position in sports media. Although grateful for the opportunity and the experiences that came with, she always wondered whether it was the career path for her. It wasn’t until Corrugated Iron had a collaboration with Circus Kathmandu that she was compelled to take her love for circus to the next level at NICA.

During her studies, Merlene specialised in Cyr Wheel, Group Acrobatics, and Tippy Lyra, drawing heavily from her background in dance and gymnastics, and infusing her performances with both strength and grace.
